This song makes fun of Michael Gove and Donald Trump. It tells about "the poor quality of political leadership in the modern world", according to its writer, Neil Tennant. He told The Guardian in October 2018, "We have written a song called 'Give Stupidity a Chance' which is a satire. It's close to a protest song, but it's also funny."

This track is the third collaborative effort between producer Tim Powell and Pet Shop Boys. The first two were the songs "Love etc." (2009 album "Yes") and "Together" (2010 compilation album "Ultimate").
