"Breathe" lyrics

"Breathe"

Breathe, breathe in the air
Don't be afraid to care
Leave, but don't leave me
Look around
Choose your own ground

Long you live and high you fly
And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
And all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be

Run, rabbit run
Dig that hole, forget the sun
And when at last the work is done
Don't sit down
It's time to dig another one

For long you live and high you fly
But only if you ride the tide
And balanced on the biggest wave
You race towards an early grave

There is another song "Breathe" originally recorded by Roger Waters and Ron Geesin for "Music from The Body" soundtrack in 1970. Although that song differs in lyrics, chords and subject matter, it can be considered as an early version of "Breathe" from the album "The Dark Side Of The Moon".
David Gilmour played a lap steel guitar on this song.
The album, this song belongs to, begins and ends with a heartbeat. So, it can mean that "Breathe" represents the first breath of air after birth.
David Gilmour explained, that the whispers heard throughout the album are references to Syd Barrett's madness.
