This song was written by lead guitarist Brian May for the soundtrack to the film "Highlander" (1986). He wrote the song after seeing a 20-minute first cut of the scene of Heather MacLeod's death.

The orchestrations were done by the co-composer of the film's score, Michael Kamen.

Freddie Mercury provides all the main vocals on the film version of this track, while Brian May sings lead vocals on the first verse with Mercury on the rest of the song on the album version.

An instrumental version of the song, titled "Forever", was included as a bonus track on the CD version of the album. It features only a piano, with keyboard accompaniment during the chorus sections. That piano track was recorded solely by Brian May.

The music video was filmed in a warehouse at Tobacco Wharf at London's East End in September 1986.

The song was was later used in some of the episodes of the "Highlander" television series.
