"Under The Bridge" lyrics
"Under The Bridge"
Sometimes I feel like I don't have a partner
Sometimes I feel like my only friend
Is the city I live in, The City of Angels
Lonely as I am together we cry
I drive on her streets 'cause she's my companion
I walk through her hills 'cause she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds and she kisses me windy
Well, I never worry, now that is a lie
I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
But take me to the place I love, take me all the way
I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
But take me to the place I love take me all the way
Yeah, yeah yeah
It's hard to believe that there's nobody out there
It's hard to believe that I'm all alone
At least I have her love
The city, she loves me
Lonely as I am together we cry
I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
But take me to the place I love take me all the way
I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
But take me to the place I love take me all the way
Yeah, yeah yeah
Oh, no, no, no, yeah yeah
Love me, I say, yeah yeah
One time
(Under the bridge downtown)
Is where I drew some blood
(Under the bridge downtown)
I could not get enough
(Under the bridge downtown)
Forgot about my love
(Under the bridge downtown)
I gave my life away, yeah
Yeah yeah
Oh, no, no no no, yeah yeah
Oh no, I said oh, yeah yeah
Here I stay

The second single from the album, it was released on the 10th of March 1992.
Anthony Kiedis wrote a poem "Under the Bridge" and producer Rick Rubin suggested him to show it to his band mates. Kiedis was reluctant, because he felt that it wouldn't fit into the band's repertoire, but John Frusciante and Chad Smith immediately tried to find the beat and chords upon hearing the poem.
John Frusciante said about these lyrics, "My brain interpreted it as being a really sad song so I thought if the lyrics are really sad like that I should write some chords that are happier".
Rick Rubin wanted the grand and epic ending for this track, like a group of singers, so John Frusciante invited his mother, Gail, and her friends, who all sang in a choir, to perform.
The song peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, and received a "Platinum" certification by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The single's accompanying
video was often played on music television channels. It won the "Viewer's Choice Award" and "Breakthrough Video" at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards.
