"Right Here Waiting" is the second single from his second album. The song was released on the 29th of June 1989.

Richard Marx told The Indian Express about "Right Here Waiting" in a 2010 interview, "I wrote the song for my wife Cynthia who was in South Africa shooting for a film. We were not married then and I wanted to meet her because I had not seen her for a few months. But my visa application was rejected and when I came back I wrote this song which was more of a letter from me to her." The song was very personal and was not intended to go public. But my friends pursued me to record it."

This song topped the Billboard Hot 100. It was certified "Platinum" by the Recording Industry Association of America on the 16th of October 1989.

The video for this track was filmed on the road during Richard Marx's 1989 Repeat Offender Tour.
