"Stay With Me" is the third single from Sam Smith's debut album "In The Lonely Hour" (2014). The song was released on April 14, 2014.

"The song is about the moment in the morning after a one night stand, where the person you are with leaves your house, and you are left by yourself, and it's just a second, where you are just like: 'I wish, I wish'. You don't even love them, you don't really fancy them that much, it's just nice to have someone in the bed next to you." - Sam Smith.

It was claimed that song's chorus had similar lyrics and melody to those in Tom Petty's 1989 hit "I Won't Back Down". According to Smith, he had never heard it before he wrote his song. Even so, he agreed to give authors a 12.5% songwriting credit. The matter was resolved out of court in less than a week.

The song topped the charts in the UK, Canada and New Zealand, reached #2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and won Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

The music video was released on YouTube on March 27, 2014. It received the nominations at the MTV Video Music Awards for Best Male Video and Artist to Watch.
