" I wrote this song with my dear friend Simon Aldred. It's one vocal and guitar take from start to finish, made complete by the beautiful injection of the incredible choir we've been working with across this new project. 'To Be Free' was written 5 years ago. It's more than special to me." The accompanied

"Filmed at the Warsaw, Brooklyn and directed by @ La Horde" according to the video's description on YouTube. Smith also added,
"I've been waiting for the right time to release this song, and I couldn't be happier that it's finally yours."
This song was written during the sessions for Sam Smith's fourth studio album, "Gloria", but was shelved at the time. Smith explained, "It was created during a time in my life where I became free within myself."
