This song, unveiled on the 15th of January 2021, was the first taste of Selena Gomez's fourth studio album. The accompanied music video was directed by Los Perez, a husband and wife team of Tania Verduzco and Adrian Perez. They said about working on the visuals, "We thought that the song had a sincere and personal message, more of the woman than the artist. We had to bring that to light. It's a song about a mature woman healing a wound, leaving the past behind, and entering into a new chapter."

"De una vez" was promoted by placing its title and the name of Selena Gomez with added "Baila Conmigo" on murals that appeared in Monterrey, Mexico, shortly before the song's release.

Selena Gomez told in an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, "I am incredibly proud of my Latin background. It felt empowering to sing in Spanish again and 'De una vez' is such a beautiful love anthem. You know what's funny, is I actually think I sing better in Spanish. That was something I discovered. It was a lot of work, and look, you cannot mispronounce anything. It is something that needed to be precise, and needed to be respected by the audience I'm going to release this for. Of course I want everyone to enjoy the music, but I am targeting my fan base. I'm targeting my heritage, and I couldn't be more excited."

"I think it has a very powerful meaning behind it for anyone who has had their heart broken," said Selena Gomez of this track. "We all have the pain and the scars from various experiences we go through in life, but it's really how we heal ourselves. Not only is it about leaving the past behind and forgiveness, but more importantly, it's also about strength, moving forward, and starting your next chapter."
