"Call My Friends" is about missing friends while living a life of a singer who is often on tour. Shawn Mendes explained on YouTube in December of 2020, "I think that 'Call My Friends' is one of the most exciting songs on the album because it has energy in it, because it was one of the first songs we wrote for the album and I was thinking—I just came off of a massive world tour—and I was thinking what type of songs are going to feel huge live and this song has this insane bass line."
