"Before I Forget" was released on June 13th, 2005 as the third single from Slipknot's album "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)".

"Before I Forget" borrows some of its riffs from a much older Slipknot song called "Carve", which predates the release of their first full-length studio album, "Slipknot".

"Before I Forget" was nominated for "Best Metal Performance" at the 48th Grammy Awards in 2006 and won, finally earning Slipknot their first Grammy after 5 other nominations. In an interview with Kerrang! magazine, frontman Corey Taylor commented: "[Producer] Rick Rubin was convinced the chorus wouldn't work. I told him he was crazy. Lo and behold, it's one of our biggest songs and we won a Grammy for it."

The music video for "Before I Forget" is noted for showing the band in casual clothes and without their masks (although their faces are never fully shown) which goes against the running theme of the band of always appearing in masks and jumpsuits.

At the end of the studio version of the song, one can hear morse code spelling out "Slipknot" and a reversed recording of Corey Taylor saying "You're wasting it".
