"Chasing Cars" lyrics

"Chasing Cars"

We'll do it all
Everything
On our own

We don't need
Anything
Or anyone

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

I don't quite know
How to say
How I feel

Those three words
Are said too much
They're not enough

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

Let's waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads

I need your grace
To remind me
To find my own

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

All that I am
All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see

I don't know where
Confused about how as well
Just know that these things will never change for us at all

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

"Chasing Cars" was released on 6 June 2006 in the US and 24 July 2006 in the UK as the second single from Snow Patrol's fourth studio album, "Eyes Open".
The phrase "Chasing Cars" came from Gary Lightbody's father, in reference to a girl the singer was infatuated with, "You're like a dog chasing a car. You'll never catch it and you just wouldn't know what to do with it if you did."
"It's the purest love song that I've ever written. There's no knife-in-the-back twist. When I read these lyrics back, I was like, 'Oh, that's weird.' All the other love songs I've written have a dark edge.", said Gary Lightbody about this song.
"Chasing Cars" gained popularity in the US after being featured in the second season finale of the medical drama television series "Grey's Anatomy", which aired on 15 May 2006.
The song peaked at number 6 on the UK Singles Chart, number 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for Best Rock Song at 2007 Grammy's.
"Chasing Cars" is referenced by Ed Sheeran in his song "All Of The Stars".
