"The Regular Saturday Night Setback Card Game" lyrics
"The Regular Saturday Night Setback Card Game"
Uncle Sam and Daddy, Bay and Uncle Clive
Got together every week as long as they were alive
But they'd always get to fightin' and forget why they came
To the regular Saturday night setback card game
Uncle Sam was married to daddy's sister May
And mama's bachelor brother was Baylor, we called him Bay
Uncle Clive was just someone that Daddy always knew
Who'd wind up at our house each time he'd had a few
And before the cards were shuffled they'd all push back their chairs
And shuffle off together down the cellar stairs
They kept something in green bottles like you ain't never smelt
And you could hear 'em down there toastin' Franklin Roosevelt
Politics, religion, Joe Lewis' last knockout
They'd argue about anything they didn't know about
Uncle Sam bet on Walcott and Dewey but wouldn't pay
And Daddy and Uncle Clive had to separate him and Bay
And after three trips to the basement Uncle Clive would get blind
And begin to quote in scripture no one could ever find
You can lead a horse to water but in the Bible he would say
And Daddy and Uncle Sam would have to separate him and Bay
Uncle Sam and Daddy, Bay and Uncle Clive
Got together every week as long as they were alive
But they'd always get to fightin' and forget why they came
To the regular Saturday night setback card game
Well Uncle Sam Left me his watch bob and Bay left me some stocks
And the Bible Uncle Clive left me was still in the box
And Daddy left a son that remembers it so well
And a lot of other memories I don't have time to tell
And if you're wonderin' about the card game and who lost or won
To tell you the truth they never got around to playin' one
But if tonight they're all together and an extra hand is dealt
I hope it's Daddy Clive Bay and Sam and Franklin Roosevelt
