"MOONLIGHT SUNRISE" is a pre-release single from TWICE's mini-album "Our Youth". The song was premiered on January 20, 2023, accompanied by the music video which Jeongyeon commented on, "All I can remember is laughing out loud with the members throughout the whole filming."

Speaking in an interview with People magazine in May of 2022, the group explained the background of this track, "The inspiration came from the last tour we had in L.A. During the tour, we had performed under the moonlight and we were dancing, and the composer for this song was there. He found our performance so beautiful, so that was what the inspiration of this song." They referred to a surprise second date at Banc of California Stadium, added due to fans demand. Nayeon shared, "I hope that the song can remind our fans of that beautiful night that we had together."

"MOONLIGHT SUNRISE" represents TWICE's second English single (after their 2021's "The Feels"). Nayeon said of the group's new work, "There were a lot of English words packed within a short amount of time. So it was not easy to record, but we had a lot of fun."
