"Clarity" is the lead single from Vance Joy's third studio album, "In Our Own Sweet Time". The song was premiered on April 7, 2022, accompanied by a music video in which Joy plays matchmaker. He told fans about the song and its video before the premiere, "This song is really upbeat and we made a fun clip to match the vibe of the song, and I actually did some acting. Well, very light acting, I would say. [...] It was totally out of my comfort zone but I really loved it. It was really fun."

"I'm always drawn to the idea of timelessness," said Vance Joy about the inspiration behind this track, "or that shared moment that takes you out of the chaos outside. If the world is crazy, you can retreat somewhere. It's always hard to think of the right title but I think that sums up the album perfectly." He also commented on his co-writer involvement, "Dan Wilson says if there is a song you might be a bit shy about because it feels poppy or makes you feel uncomfortable because it's saying something really directly that's probably the single. I got that feeling from 'Clarity'."
