"Hickory Creek" lyrics

"Hickory Creek"

It's so hard to let go
You can hear me but I'm invisible
But if you dig out your eyes, maybe pain will subside
The worst that could happen is you never see me again
But the worst is yet to come, my friend

This path I walk is comforting
But now I'm left to sing this song alone
I'm fading faster now

I left so long ago
You never noticed I was gone
Now that you don't have eyes, maybe now you'll realize
Within your own head, you're creating these lies
For what it's worth, you're still beautiful
But beauty lies within the eyes

This path I walk is comforting
But now I'm left to sing this song alone
I'm fading faster now
It's time to walk away with nothing left
Nothing left in my soul
I've faded into myself

This path I walk is comforting
But now I'm left to sing this song alone
I'm fading faster now
It's time to walk away with nothing left
Nothing left in my soul
I'm fading faster now

The whole album, according to its artwork, is based on the real events of frontman Phil Boozeman's life which was noted by metalsucks.net in their review: "This is especially apparent on tracks like 'Hickory Creek'. Consisting almost entirely of — yup! — clean vocals, 'Hickory Creek' escapes the 'LOOK WE'RE A HEAVY BAND THAT WROTE A SOFT SONG!' gimmick precisely because Bozeman is drawing from first-hand experience. It's probably the riskiest song Whitechapel have written to date, and it's one of The Valley's highlights." Guitarist Alex Wade also commented, "Phil has been upfront in his lyrics in the past about hardships he endured in his life as a child, and I believe with this record we tried to paint a better picture of that."
The music video for "Hickory Creek" was published on YouTube on the 21st of March 2019. The clip was produced by Mark Lewis (Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder).
