"The Drop" lyrics

"The Drop"

I wrote my first songs in my bedroom
And I never cared where I went to
I was on stage, thinking bout life
While thousands of people knew every line

While they clapped their hands, I shrugged my shoulders
I thought the applause would never be over
What I would give to be twenty-three
So I could say thank you for singing with me

You never know how far you're going
While you're headed to the top
You only know the height you got to
When you're falling through the drop
And all of the things I never noticed
You will miss 'em when it stops
Now every molehill is a mountain
Every little means a lot

I watch my old friends play the cities
And sometimes consider if I'm being silly
Could it have been me playing piano in Dodie's cool band
And would I be happy?

I used to wonder, have I got it
Now I don't know if I might've lost it
These words are only for me and for you
But this time I promise I'm right here with you

You never know how far you're going
While you're headed to the top
You only know the height you got to
When you're falling through the drop
And all of the things I never noticed
You will miss 'em when it stops
Now every molehill is a mountain
Every little means a lot

If I began to climb
You would stay on my mind
I wouldn't miss a step
I'd notice every breath
If I could understand
What I know now back then
I would play every night

Cause
You never know how far you're going
While you're headed to the top
You only know the height you got to
When you're falling through the drop
And all of the things I never noticed
You will miss 'em when it stops
Now every molehill is a mountain
Every little means a lot
