"Magical Mystery Tour" lyrics
"Magical Mystery Tour"
(Roll up! Roll up for the magical mystery tour!
Step right this way!)
Roll up, roll up for the mystery tour
Roll up, roll up for the mystery tour
Roll up (And that's an invitation), roll up for the mystery tour
Roll up (To make a reservation), roll up for the mystery tour
The magical mystery tour is waiting to take you away
Waiting to take you away
Roll up, roll up for the mystery tour
Roll up, roll up for the mystery tour
Roll up (We've got everything you need), roll up for the mystery tour
Roll up (Satisfaction guaranteed), roll up for the mystery tour
The magical mystery tour is hoping to take you away
Hoping to take you away
Mystery trip
Aaaah... the magical mystery tour
Roll up, roll up for the mystery tour
Roll up (And that's an invitation), roll up for the mystery tour
Roll up (To make a reservation), roll up for the mystery tour
The magical mystery tour is coming to take you away
Coming to take you away
The magical mystery tour is dying to take you away
Dying to take you away, take you today
Writer(s): Paul McCartney, John Lennon
This song is the title track of the eponymous album, EP and the film. It contains several references to drugs, e.g. "roll up" as in "roll up a joint", "trips" could mean "acid trips".
The name of this song originated from mystery tours which were popular in England at that time. They were bus tours to an unknown destination.
Paul McCartney said about this song, "Because those were psychedelic times it had to become a magical mystery tour, a little bit more surreal than the real ones."
In the book "Many Years From Now" (by Barry Miles) Paul McCartney explained the source of inspiration for him and John Lennon, "We always thought this was a fascinating idea: getting on a bus and not knowing where you were going. Rather romantic and slightly surreal!"
