The second single from the album, it was released on the 8th of October 2001.

The band's manager Rick DeVoe thought that a new album needed a catchy song, and Tom DeLonge composed "First Date" in response.

Guitarist Tom DeLonge said about the background of this track, "I thought about the first date I had with my lady and put every one of those feelings in this song. I always envy girls. If they want a kiss, it's super easy, they just open their face and do it. For a guy, you have to hope to God she wants one."

This song's music video shows the band members as hippies in the 1970s. It also parodies Bee Gees. The clip features cameos from Jordan Pundik and Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory.

This single peaked at number 6 on both the US Billboard's Alternative Songs and Modern Rock Tracks charts.
