"Lower The Humble" lyrics
"Lower The Humble"
A little uncertain, hard to be sure
Maybe I'm hurtin', I might need a cure
It's just hard to rely on my sense of why I feel blue
The easy answers, here's what you do
Parts of the picture I never sat through
It's just hard to believe anything simple is true
Calls to action, guns and steel
Mindless distractions to make us all feel
We live to some purpose, but what they reveal
Is the depth of our hunger for anything real
Could I still be what you like to do?
I could come by if you want me to
Or maybe it's better to settle for being alone
Alone used to mean you were there too
Now it's a singular thing that I do
It's easy too: No one can tell if I'm home
It's dark in here, I turned out the light
No one keeps dropping by, day or night
It's not that I'm frightened, just safer somehow
When the mail through the slot is all I allow
Try and take a look on the inside of me
There's a part of my heart I can't really see
It's the part that was open, I thought it had grown on its own
Smaller now, fading away
The shadow of what it was back in the day
It's hard to make out if it's made out of feathers or stone
Rags and tatters, skin and bones
Do I feed it or just leave it alone?
It's painful to see it so down at the heels
I hope it's not dying, but that's how it feels
This isn't tragedy, much less despair
Nothing that definite here, and my share
Of confusion is such, I'm much too entangled to care
Where's the beginning? How many ends?
Tie 'em together, see if that mends anything
If it doesn't, it's not like I need to pretend
Humble beginnings lead to humble ends
And frozen pot pies for supper again
The lower the humble, the shorter the fall
Till we don't seem to notice at all
