"The Truck Got Stuck Talkin' Blues" lyrics

"The Truck Got Stuck Talkin' Blues"
(feat. Ramblin' Jack Elliott)

The Chev got stuck and the Ford stuck
Got the Chev unstuck when the dodge showed up
But the Dodge got stuck in the tractor rut
Which eventually pulled out the Ford

I had three model A fords when I was a kid
The first, uh, three cars on the road
That I ever owned were F Model A Fords (yeah), 1930, 1931, and a 1929
(Did you wear through your motor?)
I had four of 'em, yeah (did you wear out motors or what'd you do?)
Uh, I wore out two of 'em
And the last one I lost by when I went to Europe I parked it on a farm
And when I got back to California three years later it wasn't there
I bought that from a farmer for 12 Dollars, the first ones cost me
$25 apiece, the third one was a gift, the fourth one I paid 12 Dollars for it
(Twelve dollars?) for a Model A Ford yeah I'd gladly give $1200
For an old beat up rusty Model A Ford Now
(Can't get a tank of gas for 12 bucks)
Model A's went from 28 to 31 and then 32 they started the Model B
(How about a Model T?)
And A Model B had a four-cylinder engine too
And then after that they started with the V8
(What's the Model T then?)
T was earlier (oh) And he made Model T's for a long period of five or ten years
And I don't remember what years they were, but it could've been from 1921
To 25 or something like that, I don't remember I've never had a Model T
And I've never ridden one never driven one
I'd like to learn how, they had three pedals
And they didn't have a gearshift stick
The pedals where you changed gears by stepping on different pedals
And they didn't have gears in 'em either
They had bands, like belts (yeah) in a transmission (really)
And it, and it had a magneto instead of a generator and you
They didn't have an electric starter it had a crank, Model A had a crank too

The Chev got stuck and the Ford got stuck
Got the Chev unstuck when the Dodge showed up
But the Dodge got stuck in the tractor rut
Which eventually pulled out the Ford
With some difficulty

More rain than we'd seen for a thousand years
Caused financial joys and biblical fears
It caused some smiles, it caused some tears
But more to the point of our story

For the first time in recorded memory of that old brown prairie
That had been so dry for so long, was very muddy, boggy, sticky

We'd pull one truck out and get another stuck in
And motors would roar and tires would spin
We'd sink right down, down to the diff
And we'd all take turns and do it again
'Til no one could move we'd call on more friend
Come on out here we need you (bring your truck)

The Chev got stuck and the Ford got stuck
Got the Chev unstuck when the Dodge showed up
But the Dodge got stuck in the tractor rut
Which eventually pulled out the Ford
When I put my shoulder to the wheel

Got me stuck in the mud, so I couldn't rehearse
And Chavez too has missed his work
Richie he now fears the worst he stood up his ex-wife
She called him a jerk course Holman didn't have nothing better to do ('cept ranch)

The Chev got stuck and the Ford got suck
Got the Chev unstuck when the Dodge showed up
But the Dodge got stuck in the tractor rut
Which eventually pulled out the Ford (yeah)

Well, it was truck after truck we all got stuck
Except the big old four by four Hutterite truck
We all thought "Lord are we in luck"
But he wouldn't come anywhere near us
Mighty neighborly (mighty neighborly)

Well, we used a lot of our backs with a little of our brains
We jacked up the jack and snugged up the chains
We did our very best to refrain from shoveling

We put what timber we had underneath the wheels
We was all out of sand, but managed to steal
Two sacks of the best modern canola seed you ever did see
(That oughta give us some traction)

The Chev got stuck and the Ford got suck
Got the Chev unstuck when the Dodge showed up
But the Dodge got stuck in the tractor rut
Which eventually pulled out the Ford ('bout time too)

We spilled genetically modified canola seed
That was genetically modified for controlling the weeds
And for big old yield of margin oil
Raised hell all over that native prairie soil
Department of agriculture is definitely gonna be looking for us

(Mm-mm yeah)
