"Runaway Girl" lyrics

"Runaway Girl"
(feat. Dorothy Jo Owens)

My mother left my daddy, ran away with another man
It wasn't very long until my daddy married again
They had a little boy they called Jimmy. My half brother
They said he was just like my dad and I was like my mother

Now Jimmy's old enough to go to school. He's so mean
He tells my daddy lies on me just to start a scene
My daddy beats me every day for one thing or another
And tells me every day I'm getting more and more like mother

One day at school a boy asked me if he could carry my books
And before I could say "yes", I know little Jimmy gave me a look
That told me I would get a beating whenever I got home
And so, he ran ahead of me and left me with this boy alone

My mind was running wild, I wondered how much could I take
When this boy I barely knew, asked me for a date
I told him I'd do anything just to get away
So we made our plans for me to run away that day

Now I'm living in a dingy room in a dirty part of town
And this boy I barely know hardly ever comes around
But he pays my rent and buys my food, and calls himself "my lover"
Daddy tells folks back home I ran away just like my mother

Oh if I can only tell my father
I'd rather have the real true love of a daddy and a mother
