"Don't Start Now" is the lead single off of her second studio album. The track was announced by Dua Lipa on Twitter on the 24th of October 2019: she posted a video snippet of herself with the song playing and the message "DON'T START NOW COMING SOON".

Dua Lipa explaned to Billboard, "I chose to put this song out first so I could close one chapter of my life and start another. Into a new era with a new sound! It's about moving on and not allowing anyone to get in the way of that. It also felt like a natural first-song choice as I made it with the brilliant same crew I made 'New Rules' with."

A trailer of the music video for this song was published on the 31st of October 2019, just hours before the release of the official video.
