Ed Sheeran teased the release of "Azizam" in an Instagram story he posted on the 19th of March, 2025 (one day before the Persian New Year), where he and Ilya Salmanzadeh (the producer of the song) were in a car with "Azizam" playing in background. Sheeran explained in another Instagram post several days later, "I wrote Azizam after @ilya_music suggested trying out making music inspired by his Persian heritage and culture. I love learning about music and different cultures the more I travel and connect with people. It was like opening a door to a completely new and exciting world. I loved how a lot of rhythms, scales, melodies and instruments were different but similar to the Irish trad music I had grown up with. It was showing to me music connects us all, and really is a universal language. [...] And thank you to Savan Kotecha and Johnny McDaid for helping create this with us."

"Azizam" (which serves as the lead single to Ed Sheeran 2025 album) and its pink heart video were released on the 4th of April, 2025. The singer told about the visual, "We filmed this across USA (and a bit in Ipswich) whilst promoting the song this month. It was an amazing atmosphere wherever we went. I wanted to reflect that with the video. Big up Liam Pethick for pulling out all the stops and making this video so good, and all the fans that went to see the pink hearts all around the world."

The title of this song means "my dear/darling" in Farsi. The track uses instruments like the ghatam, a clay pot as percussion (used in Southern India), and the santur (an Iranian dulcimer).
