"Bennie And The Jets" lyrics

"Bennie And The Jets"

Hey, kids, shake it loose together
The spotlight's hitting something
That's been known to change the weather
We'll kill the fatted calf tonight
So stick around
You're gonna hear electric music
Solid walls of sound

Oh, Candy and Ronnie. Have you seen them yet?
Oh, but they're so spaced out
Bennie and the Jets
Ooh, but they're weird and they're wonderful
Oh, Bennie. She's really keen
She's got electric boots, a mohair suit
I read it in a magazine
Bennie and the Jets

Hey, kids, why don't you plug into the faithless
Maybe they're blinded
But Bennie makes them ageless
We shall survive, let us take ourselves along
Where we fight our parents out in the streets
To find who's right and who's wrong

Oh, Candy and Ronnie. Have you seen them yet?
Oh, but they're so spaced out
Bennie and the Jets
Ooh, but they're weird and they're wonderful
Oh, Bennie. She's really keen
She's got electric boots, a mohair suit
I read it in a magazine
Bennie and the Jets

Ooh, Candy and Ronnie. Have you seen them yet?
Oh, but they're so spaced out
Bennie and the Jets
Ooh, but they're weird and they're wonderful
Oh, Bennie. She's really keen
She's got electric boots, a mohair suit
I read it in a magazine
Bennie and the Jets

Bennie, Bennie and the Jets
Bennie, Bennie, Bennie, Bennie and the Jets
Bennie, Bennie, Bennie, Bennie, Bennie and the Jets
Bennie, Bennie, Bennie, Bennie and the Jets, Jets, Jets, Jets

"Bennie And The Jets" mentioned in this song is a fictional band, and the narrator is their big fan.
The music video for Robert Palmer's song "Addicted To Love" was mentioned by Bernie Taupin when he said that the video with all the identical models had been close to his vision of how Bennie And The Jets could've looked like: a futuristic rock and roll band of androids fronted by some androgynous beauty.
The stuttering of the word "Bennie" was Elton John's idea to add the futuristic and robotic theme to the lyrics.
Elton John thought that this song would fail if it were released as a single because it was too simple. But after heavy airplay in Canada and the USA the song became number-one hit in 1974. It is certified Platinum in the USA.
When Elton John performed this song on The Muppet Show in 1977, his extravagant costumes were a running joke during the episode. Sam The Eagle was forced to dress like Elton.
Two robot dogs Bennie and Jet from the film "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" (2017) are named after this song. They belong to the main antagonist Poppy Adams played by Julianne Moore. The film also stars Elton John as himself.
