"Don't Go Breaking My Heart" lyrics
"Don't Go Breaking My Heart"
(with Kiki Dee)
Don't go breaking my heart
I couldn't if I tried
Oh honey if I get restless
Baby you're not that kind
Don't go breaking my heart
You take the weight off of me
Oh honey when you knock on my door
Ooh, I gave you my key
Ooh, nobody knows it
When I was down
I was your clown
Ooh, nobody knows it (Nobody knows it)
Right from the start
I gave you my heart
Oh, I gave you my heart
So don't go breaking my heart
I won't go breaking your heart
Don't go breaking my heart
And nobody told us
Because nobody showed us
And now it's up to us babe
Oh, I think we can make it
So don't misunderstand me
You put the light in my life
Oh, you put the spark to the flame
I've got your heart in my sights
Ooh, nobody knows it
When I was down
I was your clown
Ooh, nobody knows it (Nobody knows it)
Right from the start
I gave you my heart
Oh, I gave you my heart
Don't go breaking my heart
I won't go breaking your heart
Don't go breaking my heart
Ooh, nobody knows it
When I was down
I was your clown
Right from the start
I gave you my heart
Oh, I gave you my heart
Don't go breaking my heart
I won't go breaking your heart
Don't go breaking my
Don't go breaking my
Don't go breaking my heart
Don't go breaking my
Don't go breaking my
I won't go breaking your heart
Don't go breaking my heart
Don't go breaking my
I won't go breaking your heart
Don't go breaking my heart
Don't go breaking my
I won't go breaking your heart
Don't go breaking my heart
Don't go breaking my
I won't go breaking your heart
Don't go breaking my heart
Don't go breaking my
I won't go breaking your heart
Don't go breaking my heart
Don't go breaking my
I won't go breaking your heart
Don't go breaking my heart
This song was recorded when Elton John worked on his "Blue Moves" album, but it wasn't included on the album. It appeared on "Greatest Hits Volume II". Another version of this song appeared on the album "Duets" (1993), but instead of Kiki Dee, it featured
RuPaul.
Elton John and Bernie Taupin wrote this song under the pseudonyms Ann Orson and Carte Blanche.
Elton John recorded his part in Toronto, then the tape was sent to London where Kiki Dee recorded her vocal. She recalled later, "Elton had recorded the song abroad and also did my vocals in a high-pitched voice which was quite funny, so I knew which lines to sing."
This song became the first number-one single in the UK for both Elton John and Kiki Dee. It was also very successful internationally reaching the charts top positions in several countries, e.g. France, Italy, Australia and Canada.
Elton John performed this song on a Season 2 episode of The Muppet Show in 1977. Miss Piggy was performing with him and got very exited about it, so that she shouted, "Eat your heart out, Kiki."
