"My Hero" lyrics
"My Hero"
Too alarming now to talk about
Take your pictures down and shake it out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
Don't the best of them bleed it out
While the rest of them peter out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
Kudos, my hero
Leaving all the mess
You know my hero
The one that's on
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

This is the third single from the band's second album released on the 19th of January 1998, though the song had been played live since 1995.
Dave Grohl said this song was written while watching 1980s movies, and was dedicated to everyday heroes among average people. In other words: you don't need superpowers in order to do something good.
"My Hero" was featured in the scene of the final football game in the film "Varsity Blues" (1999). That scene was later parodied in the film "Not Another Teen Movie" (2001).
