Dave Grohl wrote this song about his former wife Jennifer Youngblood. He told Mojo magazine in January 2010, "It's about living with someone and feeling like you're living in a fucking cell. And then I wound up getting a divorce."

This song is the first single from their second album.

The bridge of this song is very difficult for Dave Grohl to sing live because it was yelled all in one breath on the studio recording. During their concerts Grohl usually let the crowd scream the bridge out.

Dave Grohl directed the music video himself. When he enters a lift in the video, a lounge version of Foo Fighters' song "Big Me" is heard. That version was made by the duo Moog Cookbook, whose cover version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" Grohl liked.

The music video for the song was the first one to feature Taylor Hawkins on drums, although Dave Grohl played drums on the album track.

Dave Grohl's guitar part of this song was played live by the band's fans during tour in Brisbane, Australia, in January 2018 and in Austin, Texas, in April 2018 when Grohl invited those fans from the audience because they were holding sings asking to play the song with the band on stage.
