In the film, this song was written by Jackson Maine. It was going to be a duet with Ally.

Lady Gaga recorded this song shortly after she got to know that her friend had died. She said to Entertainment Weekly, "Bradley was so gentle with me and we got through it. I performed the song. He was like, 'You don't have to do it again. It's okay.' All I wanted to do was sing. I'll never forget that day. It was really a special scene, and I'll always remember that moment."

The film's soundtrack also contains an extended version of this track.

The singer recalled about her late friend, who died just minutes before the recording of this song, "[Sonja] gave me a tragic gift that day and I took it with me to set, and I sang that song for Jackson and for her on that very same day within an hour."
