"Tangerine" lyrics

"Tangerine"

One, two
One, two, three, four
One, two

Measuring a summer's day
I only find it slips away to grey
The hours they bring me pain

Tangerine, tangerine
Living reflection from a dream
I was her love, she was my queen
And now a thousand years in between

Thinking how it used to be
Does she still remember times like these?
To think of us again
And I do

Tangerine, tangerine
Living reflection from a dream
I was her love, she was my queen
And now a thousand years in between

Writer(s): James Patrick (jimmy) Page
Jimmy Page wrote this song when he still was a lead guitarist of The Yardbirds. Their song "Knowing That I'm Losing You" (recorded with Keith Relf's vocal as a demo in 1968) is very similar to "Tangerine" melodically but has different lyrics. "Knowing That I'm Losing You" was released only in 2017 on the "Yardbirds '68" compilation album produced by Page but without Keith Relf's vocal.
It's the only track on the album for which Robert Plant didn't write the lyrics.
This song was dedicated by Jimmy Page to Jackie DeShannon, his then-girlfriend.
This song was featured at the end of the film "Almost Famous" (2000).
