Louis Tomlinson told the following about this song according to Billboard Italy, "As for 'Lazy', if I remember correctly, we wrote it after 'Sunflowers'. The latter was an important moment in the process, because it was a song I never imagined I would write, and when I heard it for the first time, I was incredibly moved. 'Lazy' came out of that. We were probably a bit hungover that day, feeling lazy, and that ended up making its way into the song."
