According to Olivia Rodrigo, "Honeybee" was her first attempt at writing a classic love song. She said during her interview with Audacy Music inside the Rockstar Suite at Hard Rock Hotel New York on the 26th of May, 2026, "It sort of reminds me of a song that people would play at their weddings hopefully. And it was the first time I've written something that is just like pure romantic love, joyful vibes and I think that was a fun creative challenge for me as a songwriter to do something like that."
