"Crazy Little Thing Called Love" lyrics

"Crazy Little Thing Called Love"

This thing called love
I just can't handle it
This thing called love
I must get 'round to it
I ain't ready
Crazy little thing called love

This thing (this thing) called love (called love)
It cries (like a baby) in a cradle all night
It swings (ooh, ooh), it jives (ooh, ooh)
It shakes all over like a jelly-fish
I kinda like it
Crazy little thing called love

There goes my baby
She knows how to rock-n-roll
She drives me crazy
She gives me hot and cold fever
She leaves me in a cool, cool sweat

I gotta be cool, relax, get hip
And get on my tracks
Take a back seat, hitch-hike
And take a long ride on my motorbike
Until I'm ready
Crazy little thing called love

Yeah

I gotta be cool, relax, get hip
And get on my tracks
Take a back seat, hitch-hike
(Ah hum, ah hum)
And take a long ride on my motorbike
Until I'm ready (Ready Freddie)
Crazy little thing called love

This thing called love
I just can't handle it
This thing called love
I must get 'round to it
I ain't ready
(Ooh ooh ooh ooh)
Crazy little thing called love

Crazy little thing called love, yeah, yeah
Crazy little thing called love, yeah, yeah
Crazy little thing called love, yeah, yeah
Crazy little thing called love, yeah, yeah
Crazy little thing called love, yeah, yeah
Crazy little thing called love, yeah, yeah
Crazy little thing called love, yeah, yeah
Crazy little thing called love, yeah, yeah

Peter Hince, the head of Queen's road crew, recalled to Mojo magazine in September 2009 how Freddie Mercury came up with this song, "The idea for the song came to him while he was in the bath. He emerged, wrapped in a towel, I handed him the guitar, and he worked out the chords there and then. Fred had this knack of knowing a great pop song."
Freddie Mercury explained how this song was written, "'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' took me five or ten minutes. I did that on the guitar, which I can't play for nuts, and in one way it was quite a good thing because I was restricted, knowing only a few chords."
This track sounded not like the band's usual style, rather more like Elvis Presley, but their fans loved it.
This was the first song on which Freddie Mercury played rhythm guitar. He also played the guitar solo on the original recording, but the tapes were lost.
This single brought success for the band, reaching number 2 in the UK and becoming their first US number-one hit.
During a solo on this song, Brian May used a Fender Telecaster, commonly used in the 50s and 60s, instead of his favorite Red Special.
