"Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon" lyrics

"Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon"

I go off to work on Monday morning
Tuesday I go off to honeymoon
I'll be back again before it's time for sunny-down
I'll be lazing on a Sunday afternoon

Bicycling on every Wednesday evening
Thursday I go waltzing to the zoo
I come from London town, I'm just an ordinary guy,
Fridays I go painting in the Louvre

I'm bound to be proposing on a Saturday night
(There he goes again)
I'll be lazing on a Sunday
Lazing on a Sunday
Lazing on a Sunday afternoon.

This is one of Queen's shortest songs and the shortest song on the album.
Freddie Mercury explained in 1976, "Everything on 'Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon' is something that I'm really sort of. I love doing the vaudeville side of things. It's quite a sort of test. I love writing things like that, and I'm sure I'm going to do more than that. It's quite a challenge."
The lead vocal on this track was sung in the studio and reproduced through headphones in a tin bucket. A microphone picked up the sound from the bucket, which gives it a hollow "megaphone" sound.
According to the album's co-producer Roy Thomas Baker on the Classic Albums documentary in 2005, the song's guitar solo was recorded on the vocal track.
The song was performed at most concerts in 1976, but the live version was never released because it remains unsure whether at least one show was filmed or recorded during 1976 when the song was performed. For instance, it wasn't performed during Queen's legendary Hyde Park concert on the 18th of September 1976.
