This song was written by Freddie Mercury on the piano and guitar first. Brian May added some guitar sequences afterwards. Mercury was inspired by Mary Austin with whom he had a long-term relationship.

The tune instantly became a fan favorite and was played at nearly every Queen concert. Mercury would often stop singing and allow the crowd to carry on the tune.

The version of this song from Queen's live album "Live Killers" reached number one in the singles chart in Argentina and Brazil. It stayed in the charts in Argentina for a year in 1981.

Since Freddie Mercury's death in 1991, Brian May often sings vocals on the song on concerts. The crowd usually sings a huge part of the song which sometimes makes May to get emotional.
