"Scarlet" lyrics

"Scarlet"
(feat. Jimmy Page)

Baby you excite me
But you talk too much
Won't stand on a corner
Love you more, oh yeah

Scarlet, why you wearing my heart, on your sleeve
Where it ain't supposed to be

Scarlet, why you tearing my heart, all to pieces
It ain't the way it's supposed to be

Scarlet, why are you keeping my heart, to yourself
It ain't the way it's supposed to be

Scarlet, Scarlet
Ooh yeah!

You don't have to change your mind
And leave this neighbourhood so far behind
Honey you don't have to cry no more
When I come a knocking, right at your front door

Scarlet, Scarlet, Scarlet

Scarlet, why you wearing my heart, on your sleeve
Where it ain't supposed to be
Scarlet, Scarlet, oh

Scarlet, Scarlet, Scarlet
Why you wearing my heart

Scarlet, why you wearing my heart
Scarlet, why you wearing my heart
Scarlet, why you wearing my heart
Scarlet

"Scarlet" was an outtake track finally included on the 2020 re-issue of the Rolling Stones' album "Goats Head Soup". Mick Jagger recalled, "I remember first jamming this with Jimmy and Keith in Ronnie's basement studio. It was a great session." The band explained on Facebook on the 22nd of July 2020, "Originally recorded in October 1974, this track has never been released before – featuring legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page and guests Blind Faith's Rick Grech on bass."
Keith Richards told about how Jimmy Page happened on this song, "We walked in at the end of a Zeppelin session. They were just leaving, and we were booked in next and I believe that Jimmy decided to stay." Richards also added, "We weren't actually cutting it as a track. It was basically for a demo, a demonstration, you know, just to get the feel of it, but it came out well. With a line-up like that, you know, we better use it."
Jimmy Page told the following about his involvement, "Keith kicked it off and I began to mold a riff around his guitar part to augment the arrangement. It began to lock-in pretty soon with the musicians and we all got a successful take that evening."
"Scarlet" debuted on Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 on the 22nd of July 2020.
