"Billinudgel" lyrics

"Billinudgel"

Well, it musta been 'round 4:30 in the mornin'
The first light of dawn creepin' over the horizon
Fifteen minutes from a Billinudgel breakfast
I was rollin' down Highway 1

And you know what it's like up around the Northern Rivers
Those windin' roads just give me the shivers
And to top it all off
There'd been a few points of rain

Well, I'd been stuck in low gear for what seemed like forever
Climbin' up a steep hill with my diesel a-revvin'
But the big old White was a pure delight
And the best rig doin' the rounds

But you know what it's like when you're tired and you're hungry
Everything that you do, well, you do it in a hurry
Well, I got to the top
And I thought I'd just let her roll down
Hey

It was a good long stretch of downhill runnin'
And as far as I could see, there was nobody comin'
So I let her have her head a little bit longer
And she took off like a mallee bull

Then my mind on a meal and my hands on the wheel
My eyes started seein' things that couldn't be real
'Cause the roadside posts started turnin' into six-foot plums
You know what time it is then, mates, heh––time for a stop

Well, I went for the brake like a drunk to the bottle
But my foot missed the mark and it landed on the throttle
And the diesel roared, and I prayed to the Lord
"Lord, won't you gimme a break?"

Oh, I guess He wasn't listenin' or He just didn't care
Or maybe He was takin' forty winks up there
'Cause soon I was ridin'
A twenty-two-wheel rollerskate

Then the wheels left the road as far as I can remember
I was roarin' through the bush like a shearer on a bender
When the door opened up, and who should get in?
But a big red kangaroo

He said, "G'day mate, what the hell d'ya think you're doin?
Give us the wheel there, I'll get ya through it"
Then he crashed through the gears
And we missed another big ol' gum, oh yeah

Well, around about here it kinda gets in a muddle
Though I seem to recall givin' a koala a cuddle
And a possum on my lap
And a white cockatoo screamin', "Give her a go, ya mug"

Then when I awoke, it was no damn joke
I was alone in the cab except for the blokes
From Billinudgel
Starin' in the window and sayin', "Are you alright, mate?"

I said, "Fellas, give us a big mug of black coffee
A Billinudgel special burger with the works
Because you know, fellas, you're never gonna believe this"

Well, it musta been around 4:30 in the mornin'
The first light of dawn creepin' over the horizon
Fifteen minutes from a Billinudgel breakfast
I was rollin' down Highway 1

And you know what it's like up around the Northern Rivers
Those windin' roads just give me the shivers
And to top it all off
There'd been a few points of rain ...
