"Sally (The Girl On Channel 8)" lyrics

"Sally (The Girl On Channel 8)"

Billy was a friend of mine, we drove the midnight run
And on the planes outside of hay we'd race our rigs for fun
Just before the borderline, a girl's voice filled the air
Calling on the CV, Billy knew girls everywhere
Now this one he called Sally, she ran a pub somewhere
She knew the codes and all the roads that led away from there
When the scalies stopped to drink she'd find out where they'd been
And radioed their whereabouts to Billy and our team

Yes, there's the girl on the radio, she's using Channel 8
Calling out to Billy when to move and when to wait
He wouldn't tell us where she was 'cause that would blow the game
Where Sally's on the air he'd call "The Pub Without a Name"

Billy lost some points for driving hours in excess
The RTA was after him, he was hounded more or less
Still, he kept on driving late, I guess that's all he know
I saw him roar up, laugh, and say, "And Sal will guide me through"
That night he struck a thunderstorm, his radio went out
He took the long way round in case the scalies were about
The night was dark and raining, it was such a rotten bend
Where Billy missed the turn-off and jack-dived to his end

Well, there's the girl on the radio, she's using Channel 8
Calling out to Billy trying to find out why he's late
He wouldn't tell us where she was 'cause that would blow the game
But I pictured Sally waiting at the Pub Without a Name

I gave a bloke a ride that night, I couldn't see his face
He seemed to be familiar like I knew him from some place
He asked me if I knew the pub in the town just further on
But when I turned to answer him, my passenger was gone
I stopped the truck, I searched the roads, hoped he didn't fall
But everything was still like there'd been no one there at all
I headed for the town he said and found that one hotel
And there behind the bar was a girl they all called Sal

Yeah, she's the girl on the radio, she's using Channel 8
Calling out to Billy when to move and when to wait
I'd like to tell you where she is but that would blow the game
'Cause Sally, she still operates the Pub Without a Name

Yes, the Pub Without a Name, my friend, is somewhere that I've been
And if the scalies ask you say it's just a trucker's dream
I'd like to tell you where she is but that would blow the game
'Cause Sally, she still operates the Pub Without a Name
Yeah Sally, she's still on the air at the Pub Without a Name
