"I Just Called To Say I Love You" lyrics

"I Just Called To Say I Love You"
(from "The Woman In Red" soundtrack)

No New Year's Day to celebrate
No chocolate-covered candy hearts to give away
No first of spring, no song to sing
In fact, here's just another ordinary day

No April rain, no flowers bloom
No wedding Saturday within the month of June
But what it is, it's something true
Made up of these three words that I must say to you

I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart

No summer's high, no warm July
No harvest moon to light one tender August night
No autumn breeze, no falling leaves
Not even time for birds to fly to southern skies

No Libra sun, no Halloween
No giving thanks to all the Christmas joy you bring
But what it is, though old, so new
To fill your heart like no three words could ever do

I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care, I do
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart

I just called to say I love you, yeah
I just called to say how much I care, I do
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart

Of my heart, of my heart
Baby, of my heart

Writer(s): Stevie Wonder
This song was written for the film "The Woman in Red" (1984). Stevie Wonder wrote most of the soundtrack to the film.
With songs like this one and "Part-Time Lover" Stevie Wonder moved from funk (his early hits like "Superstition" and "Higher Ground") to a more adult-contemporary sound, that brought big hits, but disappointed those fans which hoped for a classic Wonder groove.
The song won the a Golden Globe award and an Academy Award for "Best Original Song". Other four nominated songs were "Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now)" by Phil Collins, "Footloose" by Kenny Loggins, "Let's Hear It For The Boy" by Deniece Williams, and "Ghostbusters" by Ray Parker, Jr.. All five nominees were number-one hits on the Hot 100: the only time that has happened.
"I Just Called to Say I Love You" is Stevie Wonder's best-selling single to date. It made a record by topping 19 charts.
