"Superstition" lyrics

"Superstition"

Very superstitious
Writing's on the wall
Very superstitious
Ladder's 'bout to fall
Thirteen month old baby
Broke the looking glass
Seven years of bad luck
The good things in your past

When you believe in things
That you don't understand
Then you suffer
Superstition ain't the way, yeah

Ooh, very superstitious
Wash your face and hands
Rid me of the problem
Do all that you can
Keep me in a daydream
Keep me going strong
You don't want to save me
Sad is my song

When you believe in things
That you don't understand
Then you suffer
Superstition ain't the way, yeah

Very superstitious
Nothing more to say
Very superstitious
The devil's on his way
Thirteen month old baby
Broke the looking glass
Seven years of bad luck
Good things in your past

When you believe in things
That you don't understand
Then you suffer
Superstition ain't the way
No, no, no

Writer(s): Stevie Wonder
The lead single from his fifteenth studio album.
Although Stevie Wonder could play almost all of the instruments he used on his songs, he still preferred to let other guitarists play on his records. That's why Jeff Beck, an admirer of Wonder's music, was invited to the album's sessions. Wonder, in return, wrote him a song.
Jeff Beck came up with the opening drum beat for this song one day in the sessions, while Stevie Wonder improvised over the top of it, until they created the first demo the same day.
This song reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the soul singles chart in 1973.
In November 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked the song at number 74 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
