The first single from the album, this song was released as a double-A-side single with "Fat Bottomed Girls".

"Fat Bottomed Girls" references this song when Freddie Mercury shouts closer to the end, "Get on your bikes and ride!" "Bicycle Race", in turn, has the line "fat bottomed girls, they'll be riding today" in its lyrics as a back reference.

The official video for this track shows a bicycle race with nude women at Wimbledon Stadium. It was banned in some countries.

The beginning of the bridge uses a chord structure similar to the intro to their "Bohemian Rhapsody".
