"Broken Promise Of A Lullaby" lyrics

Stone cold in the toaster
There's broken plates in the corner by the old vacuum
A coke up on the coaster
While the TV plays cartoons into an empty room
And she's standing by the windowsill
Staring out into a deep abyss
She'll get him back, she knows she will
The sober thoughts of an optimist

Go to sleep now close your eyes
Little baby don't you cry
Tomorrow I'll be by your side
Cause I'll always be there
Hoping and waiting for you
To come back home to me
Darling you know I love you
Can we do this properly now?

A ring pull in a minefield
The fermented taste of a wasted opportunity
The handshake of a bad deal
As the ashtray tallies the time without reality
And she's standing by those wretched taps
Pouring bottles down a darker hole
But those dregs she drains won't fetch him back
The borrowed thoughts of a broken soul

Go to sleep now close your eyes
Little baby don't you cry
Tomorrow I'll be by your side
Cause I'll always be there
Hoping and waiting for you
To come back home to me
Darling you know I love you
Can we do this properly now?

A dull light in a dark room
There's a high chair sat there waiting for the promise made
And she don't have the heart to
Pick the puzzle pieces up and put them all away
So she's lying on the stone cold floor
Trying to take away a world of shame
She lost it all, she knows for sure
One more sip to take away the pain

So go to sleep now close your eyes
Little baby don't you cry
Tomorrow I'll be by your side
Cause I'll always be there
Hoping and waiting for you
To come back home to me
Darling you know I love you
Can we do this properly now?

Hoping and waiting for you
Can we do this properly now?
Darling you know I love you
