"All Shook Up" lyrics

"All Shook Up"

Uh, well, a-bless my soul, what's wrong with me?
I'm itching like a man on a fuzzy tree
My friends say I'm acting wild as a bug
I'm in love, I'm all shook up
Mm, ooh, yeah, yeah-yay

Well, my hands are shaky, and my knees are weak
I can't seem to stand on my own two feet
Who do you thank when you have such luck?
I'm in love, I'm all shook up
Mm, ooh, yeah, yeah-yay

Well, please don't ask me what's on my mind
I'm a little mixed up, but I feel fine
When I'm near the girl that I love best
My heart beats so it scares me to death

When she touched my hand, what a chill I got
Her lips are like a volcano that's hot
I'm proud to say that she's my buttercup
I'm in love, I'm all shook up
Mm, ooh, yeah, yeah-yay

My tongue gets tied when I try to speak
My insides shake like a leaf on a tree
There's only one cure for this body of mine
That's to have that girl that I love so fine

She touched my hand, what a chill I got
Her lips are like a volcano that's hot
I'm proud to say that she's my buttercup
I'm in love, uh, I'm all shook up
Mm, ooh, yeah, yeah-yay

Mm, ooh, yeah, yeah
I'm all shook up

Writer(s): Otis Blackwell, Elvis Aaron Presley
One version of this song's origin tells that Otis Blackwell, the writer of the song, composed it at a studio after the owner of the studio had shaken a bottle of Pepsi and suggested him to write a song with the words "all shook up". Elvis Presley liked the phrase "All Shook Up" as a perfect line for a chorus.
Elvis Presley explained in an interview in October 1957, "I've never even had an idea for a song. Just once, maybe. I went to bed one night, had quite a dream, and woke up all shook up. I phoned a pal and told him about it. By morning, he had a new song, 'All Shook Up'."
Actor David Hess recorded this song a few weeks before Elvis Presley. His version was named "I'm All Shook Up". He explained in a 2009 interview, "As far as 'All Shook Up', the title came from a real set of circumstances and when I decided not to write it, Otis Blackwell did, and I had the first recording for Aladdin Records. It was my title, but Otis wrote the song and Presley took a writing credit in order to get him to record it."
This single reached number-one position on the US Billboard Hot 100, the Billboard R&B and the country charts. "All Shook Up" became Elvis Presley's first number-one hit on the UK Singles Chart.
It was certified two-times Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
Rolling Stone magazine ranked this song number 352 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
