"Return Of The Interstellar Angels" lyrics

"Return Of The Interstellar Angels"

Well, they landed down on a burley farm
On a summer night in Tennessee
A little ship full of cosmic bards
Burning diamonds in the baccer leaves
Sent off course when a mystic force
Came roaring through their radio
Lost in the dark with that old "Sweetheart of the Rodeo"

They disappeared with the evening fog
Went looking for that sacred sound
And they caught it out by a honky-tonk
"Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down"
Changed their skin so they blended in
Taking on a cowboy's form
And the critics say it was on that day
The band was born

Interstellar Angels
Flying down the road to a new frontier
Coming untangled
From the angst above the atmosphere
Just starry-eyed children
Trying to make a living in a neon moon
Pickin' down in Nashville
And everywhere between Neptune

So they went to work writing country songs
Demoed on an old iPad
And they mailed a few down to Music Row
Sent a few back to mom and dad
Their first EP earned a Christgau C
He wrote they hadn't paid their dues
So they hitched a ride to the cold east side
Where they learned the blues

Interstellar Angels
Flying down the road to a new frontier
Coming untangled
From the angst above the atmosphere
Just starry-eyed children
Trying to make a living in a neon moon
Pickin' down in Nashville
And everywhere between Neptune

And it came to a head after sixteen years
When they decided they should call it quits
They sold all their pub off their eight LPs
With a Live! and one Greatest Hits
Got approached by some business folks
Repping a reunion tour
Said, "We'll play all night if the money's right
We don't care no more"

Interstellar Angels
Flying down the road to a new frontier
Coming untangled
From the angst above the atmosphere
Just starry-eyed children
Trying to make a living in a neon moon
Pickin' down in Nashville
And everywhere between Neptune
Yeah, they're gettin' down in Nashville
And everywhere between Neptune
