The introduction of this song was inspired by song "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys. The Beach Boys had it on their album "Pet Sounds" (1966), which was—funny enough—inspired by The Beatles' album "Rubber Soul" (1965).

Paul McCartney begin to work on this song while sitting with a guitar by the pool at John Lennon's house in Weybridge. He waited for Lennon to wake up and almost wrote the whole song.

John Lennon and Paul McCartney both shared an opinion that this song was much underrated among other Beatles songs. McCartney considered it as one of his favourite.

This song is featured in the TV series "Friends" during Phoebe Buffay's wedding.
