John Lennon, who wrote this song, loved to stay in bed not only for sleeping but also for reading, watching TV or whatever, so this song in dedicated by him to those "activities".

John Lennon and Yoko Ono's "bed-in" protests extended the song's idea of spending time in bed to avoid fussing around and causing troubles like wars, fights etc.

The sound effect of a guitar played backward was accidentally produced by a studio engineer who played some tape in a wrong direction. George Harrison liked the unusual sound and decided to apply this trick for this song.

The "Anthology 2" instrumental version of this song features a vibraphone used for the first time by the band.
