"Can't Buy Me Love" lyrics

"Can't Buy Me Love"

Can't buy me love, love
Can't buy me love

I'll buy you a diamond ring my friend
If it makes you feel alright
I'll get you anything my friend
If it makes you feel alright
'Cause I don't care too much for money
Money can't buy me love

I'll give you all I've got to give
If you say you love me too
I may not have a lot to give
But what I've got I'll give to you
I don't care too much for money
Money can't buy me love

Can't buy me love, everybody tells me so
Can't buy me love, no, no, no, no

Say you don't need no diamond rings
And I'll be satisfied
Tell me that you want the kind of things
That money just can't buy
I don't care too much for money
Money can't buy me love

Can't buy me love, everybody tells me so
Can't buy me love, no, no, no, no

Say you don't need no diamond rings
And I'll be satisfied
Tell me that you want the kind of things
That money just can't buy
I don't care too much for money
Money can't buy me love

Can't buy me love, love
Can't buy me love, oh

This song was written and originally recorded in Paris where The Beatles were performing in a series of concerts in 1964. They needed to write some new material to capitalize upon the success of their song "I Want to Hold Your Hand" that had just become number-one hit in the USA.
George Martin released his interesting idea in this song: it starts with a chorus and was one of the first popular songs to have this trick.
The band Men Without Hats has a song "Kenbarbielove" which title is a misheard phrase "Can't buy me love". The band's drummer Michel Langevin heard The Beatles' song when he was just six years old and didn't speak English, so it sounded to him that way.
"Can't Buy Me Love" is the title of a 1987 film where a nerdy guy pays a popular cheerleader girl to pretend that they're a couple for one month.
This song is performed by the characters of Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel in the film "Yes Man" (2008).
