"Oh! Darling" lyrics

"Oh! Darling"

Oh! Darling, please believe me
I'll never do you no harm
Believe me when I tell you
I'll never do you no harm

Oh! Darling, if you leave me
I'll never make it alone
Believe me when I beg you, ooh
Don't ever leave me alone

When you told me
You didn't need me anymore
Well you know I nearly broke down and cried
When you told me
You didn't need me anymore
Well you know I nearly broke down and died

Oh! Darling, if you leave me
I'll never make it alone
Believe me when I tell you
I'll never do you no harm
Believe me darling

When you told me, ooh
You didn't need me anymore
Well you know I nearly broke down and cried
When you told me
You didn't need me anymore
Well you know I nearly broke down and died

Oh! Darling, please believe me
I'll never let you down
Oh, believe me darling
Believe me when I tell you, ooh
I'll never do you no harm

Thanks to The Shins, John Rikard for correcting these lyrics.
Writer(s): Paul McCartney, John Lennon
Paul McCartney wanted no clear vocals on this song. Though hard-rock vocals have usually been sung by John Lennon, Paul decided to do the lead vocals himself, and he practiced for a week to achieve that strained voice. John later said, "I always thought I could have done it better – it was more my style than his."
The "Anthology 3" album includes a version of this song with improvised lyrics, which were sung by the band after John Lennon announced, "Just heard that Yoko's divorce has just gone through," during one of the recording sessions on the 27th of January 1969.
"Oh! Darling" has never been performed on-stage by the band or any of The Beatles' members so far (as of March 2008).
