"You Never Give Me Your Money" lyrics
"You Never Give Me Your Money"
You never give me your money
You only give me your funny paper
And in the middle of negotiations
You break down
I never give you my number
I only give you my situation
And in the middle of investigation
I break down
Out of college, money spent
See no future, pay no rent
All the money's gone, nowhere to go
Any jobber got the sack
Monday morning, turning back
Yellow lorry slow, nowhere to go
But oh, that magic feeling, nowhere to go
Oh, that magic feeling, nowhere to go
Nowhere to go
Aaaaahhhhhhhhhh...
Aaaaahhhhhhhhhh...
Aaaaahhhhhhhhhh...
One sweet dream
Pick up the bags and get in the limousine
Soon we'll be away from here
Step on the gas and wipe that tear away
One sweet dream came true today
Came true today
Came true today (Yes it did)
One two three four five six seven
All good children go to Heaven
One two three four five six seven
All good children go to Heaven
One two three four five six seven
All good children go to Heaven
One two three four five six seven
All good children go to Heaven
One two three four five six seven
All good children go to Heaven
One two three four five six seven
All good children go to Heaven
One two three four five six seven
All good children go to Heaven
One two three four five six seven
All good children go to Heaven (fade out)
Writer(s): Paul McCartney, John Lennon
This song was created from fragments of four unfinished songs because The Beatles had a lot of song ideas by 1969, so, they could sometimes combine them.
"You Never Give Me Your Money" was written to reflect the band's business and personal problems because they had to handle their own financial affairs after their manager died. That was a great burden for them and caused much tension inside the band.
The words "funny paper" from the lyrics refer to the situation when the accountants of the band showed how much the band is worth "on paper" instead of telling them how much money they had. George Harrison said, "We get bits of paper saying how much is earned and what this and that is, but we never actually get it in pounds, shillings and pence."
