The "Sun King" was a nickname given to King Louis XIV of France. John Lennon, who penned this song, said that the idea had come to him in a dream, although he could as well be inspired by Nancy Mitford's book "Sun King" about the life of that king.
The early version of the title was "Here Comes the Sun King", but was shortened because one of George Harrison's songs had the title "Here Comes The Sun".
The song was recorded as one take with the song "Mean Mr. Mustard" as a second part of the album's B-side medley.
The song took an inspiration from the song "Albatross" by
Fleetwood Mac: it has the same key and the same introduction's chords.
About the mixture of Spanish and Italian words in the lyrics Lennon said, "...we just made up... Paul knew a few Spanish words from school, you know. So we just strung any Spanish words that sounded vaguely like something."
