John Lennon wrote this song about his love for Yoko Ono. He said at the time, "Every time I pick up the guitar I sing about Yoko and that's how I'm influenced." He and Yoko Ono got married not long before the album's release.

When recording this song all four Beatles were in the studio together for the last time.

This was The Beatles' second longest song (after "Revolution 9"). It might be because John Lennon wanted to experiment with heavy blues sounds. That's why the song has few lyrics and many repeated chords.

When listening to the song very attentively one can hear the phrase "What was that about!?" coming from the left speaker right after John Lennon's scream at 4:30.
